FAQ CYCLING HOLIDAYS

You can subscribe to an additional travel assistance insurance (via Europ Assistance) when booking your cycling holiday with Baguet Bicycle Center. This costs €17.00 per person.

The price of a cancellation insurance, which we definitely recommend, is 4.33% of the total travel sum. This can also be subscribed (via Europ Assistance) when booking the cycling holiday with Baguet Bicycle Center.

No, we do not ask for a deposit. You don’t have to take out a bicycle insurance either. When you pick up your bike, you check the bike for any damage together with the person in charge of the bike workshop. If damage occurs, it will be noted on the rental contract. When you return your bike, it will be checked again. New damage must be paid for according to the prices listed in the rental contract (to be signed on site).

Yes you can. Every client can customise their trip in our online booking system. Each element being flights/transfers, hotel as well as bike/bicycle guidance can be booked separately on the desired dates.

If you want to participate in guided rides without having booked a bike package, you will have to pay 15€ per ride (in addition to the price of your rental bike). This cannot be booked online and must be paid on site. Please note: this is only possible in Calpe.

Yes, it is possible. You can take your bike on the plane in a solid bike case. The airline company will charge extra for this. Attention: do not bring CO2 cartridges in the bike case, they will irrevocably be taken out by the airline company.

However, there is a but!!! We know by experience that transport by plane always involves the risk of damage to the bikes. Therefore, definitely consider reserving a quality rental bike at Baguet Bicycle Center. This will be perfectly adjusted to your measurements.

Participants with their own bikes will not receive a discount on the package for this.

Send a message to info@baguet.cc and we will contact you to submit and finalise your booking request.

Let us know by email to info@baguet.cc We will then send you an Excel form in which you can register all the travellers’ details. We will then import this file into our booking system so that everything can be processed further.

No, the prices on the calendar do not include flights and transfers. To find out the price including flights and transfers, click on the week of your choice.

Below the dates you will find a block ‘Flight’. If you wish to book a full package including flights and transfers, you can turn the ‘Would you like a bike package with flights included?’ button here. YES. At the bottom of the screen you will then see the total price increase and you will get the total price including flights and transfers.

You are free to book your flights yourself and only opt for the hotel and bike package. Don’t forget to arrange your own transfers between the airport and hotel in Spain.

Due to contractual agreements with the hotels, we can only offer half-board. So no rooms with breakfast only.

In principle you could, but from experience we advise not to do so. Due to (unforeseen) circumstances, it can happen that rides are returned too late to have lunch at the hotel . By the way, in Spain you can have a very cheap (and much cheaper than in the hotel) lunch or snack after the ride.

In some hotels, triple rooms can be booked. You can find these by clicking on “Room type” in the booking module. In the menu that opens, you will then immediately see whether triple rooms are available. However, please note that not all rooms offer the same comfort as a double room (e.g. the third person sleeps on a sofa bed).

Only in Mojacar- Hotel Alegria Palacio – are drinks (water and wine) included with dinner. In all other hotels, these are separate and payable on-site.

Our concept is a cycling holiday with a rental bike. As our quality rental bikes are included in the cycling package, we do not give a discount if you wish to bring your own bike. We have recently invested in a whole fleet of new bikes (Ridley Fenix SLiC with Shimano Ultegra 12-speed Di2).

These bikes are top-quality and we will continue to offer a top-quality experience to all customers on this basis.

When booking, click on the “Bike Type” box. Then a menu will open and you can select “Own bike”. At that moment, we book the bicycle as extra luggage on both the flight and the transfer. The extra cost for this is €150, i.e. €120 for the flight and €30 for the transfer.

We can book the bike as extra luggage with the flights and transfers. The extra cost for this is 150€, namely 120€ for the flights and 30€ for the transfer.

We do not offer bicycle transport by road. However, this can be requested for groups of 25 cyclists or more.

We do ask you to pay immediately when booking. The reason for this is that we have to book and pay for flights ourselves. We also have to make advance payments to hotels immediately upon booking.

As a result, the price is fixed immediately and no extra costs (price increase of flights, fuel surcharge, hotel price indexation, etc.) can be charged later. The price at the time of ordering is the final price, without any unpleasant surprises later.

We also do not charge any administration fees.

We do not work with advance payments and ask our customers to pay the full price immediately.

You can take out extra travel insurance (via Europ Assistance) when booking your cycling holiday with Baguet Bicycle Center. This costs €17.00 per person.

The price of cancellation insurance, which we definitely recommend, is 4.33% of the total travel sum. This can also be taken out when booking the cycling holiday at Baguet Bicycle Center (via Europ Assistance).

Cancellation insurance is especially useful before you travel. It protects you from the financial consequences should you unexpectedly be unable to go on a holiday due to circumstances. Travel insurance protects you during your trip and is therefore no less important.

Cancellation insurance

Cancellation insurance provides cover for costs incurred due to a cancellation. These are costs you have to pay when you cannot go on your holiday, for example because you fell ill just before departure.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is an insurance against damages incurred while travelling or during your journey:

  • loss, theft or damage to luggage;
  • travel accidents;
  • medical expenses;
  • repatriation;
  • return travel costs in case of illness or death of a member of the family;
  • additional accommodation costs.

About 10 days before departure, he/she who made (or requested) the booking will receive the necessary travel documents for all travellers. He/she will then further distribute these to all fellow travellers.  These travel documents include the flight tickets (to be used for online check-in if necessary), vouchers for transfers, hotel and rental bike(s).

If you still have not received the documents a week before your departure, be sure to contact Baguet Bicycle Center via e-mail info@fietsstages-baguet.be or via our info number 0032 470 624 103.

– Group = from 10 persons with 1 contact person / 1 invoice with max 2 payments (advance and balance)

– Discount: gradual (the bigger the group, the bigger the discount)

< 10 pers: no discount

>= 10 pers – <20 pers: – 25€ discount per person from 11th: so e.g. group of 15 pers: 125€ discount on total price i.e. 5 x 25€ = 125€

>= 20 pers – <30 pers: – 30€ discount per person from 21st: so eg group of 25 pers: 400€ discount on total price, i.e. 10 x 25€ = 250€ (11 to 20 pers) + 5 x 30€ = 150€ (21 to 25 pers)

>=30 pers – < 40 pers: – 40€ discount per person from 31st: so e.g. group 35 pers: 750€ discount on total price, ie 10 x 25€ = 250€ (11 to 20 pers) + 10 x 30€ = 300€ (21 to 30 pers) + 5 x 40€ = 200€ (31 to 35 pers)

Short-sleeved cycling jersey, cycling shorts and from November to the end of March it is also recommended to bring sleeve and/or leg warmers. At the start in the morning, it may then be a little cooler.
As the daily laundry service of cycling clothes is included in the cycling package, it suffices to bring 2 complete outfits for the whole week.
And don’t forget your helmet, as it is mandatory in Spain.

All flights include 20 kg of hold luggage and 8 kg of hand luggage.

No. You have to go to the check-in desks yourself to check in and/or drop off your luggage.

You will receive all necessary information and vouchers by e-mail about 10 days in advance.

It is a possibility but not an obligation. Most airlines allow you to check in your flight 24 hours before departure. If you are unable to do so, go to the check-in desks at the airport 2 hours before departure and you will be checked in on the spot. Simply present your identity card at the desk.

If you check in in advance, you still have to drop off your baggage at the drop-off desks on departure.

Both options are possible. Most airlines allow you to check in your flight 24 hours before departure. If you do not succeed, go to the check-in desks at the airport 2 hours before departure and you will be checked in at the airport. Simply present your identity card at the desk.

If you check in in advance, you still have to drop off your luggage at the drop-off desks on departure.

With the reservation number of your flight, you can choose and reserve your seat/place on the plane yourself in advance on payment of a supplement.

No, there is no host(ess) of Baguet Bicycle Center waiting for you at the airport in Spain either. The arrival times of flights from Belgium are too widely spread throughout the day.

All necessary information for your transfer together with the vouchers will be sent to you by e-mail about ten days before your departure date.

ALICANTE AIRPORT

After leaving the arrival area where you picked up your luggage, please go to level -2 (either via the escalator or the lifts).
You may then present your transfer voucher at the BeniConnect desk.
They will further direct you to your private taxi or private bus or shared shuttle.
This vehicle will take you to your hotel in Calpe.

MURCIA AIRPORT

After leaving the arrival area where you picked up your luggage, please go to the exit.
A representative from BeniConnect will be waiting for you there.
The transfer voucher may then be given to this person.
He/she will direct you to your private taxi or private bus.
This vehicle will take you to your hotel in Mojacar.

Please remove your pedals from your luggage when you check in at the hotel; luggage can be dropped off for storage until the room is ready.

You will then be invited to collect your rental bike:
– Calpe : Service Course – see map later in this document
– Mojacar : Bike Center located at -2 next to the car park

Our staff on site will help you with the further preparation of your rental bike.

A welcome briefing for cyclists is planned:
– Calpe : 17:00h / Service Course
– Mojacar : 19:00h / Meeting room in hotel

In case you are unable (e.g. late flight) to attend this briefing, you are kindly requested to be present at the bike centre (Service Course in Calpe or BBC Bike Centre on level -2 in hotel Mojacar) at 8.45am the next morning of your arrival.

Depending on the severity, make a doctor’s appointment or go to the hospital.

The first thing they will ask you there is your identity card and your European Health Insurance Card (former E111). The latter is indispensable in Spain. You can apply for it on simple request through your mutual insurance company.

Without this European Health Insurance Card, you will also be helped, but you will immediately have to pay the full amount for the consultation and care administered. However, these can be recovered in Belgium afterwards.

In case of serious illness or injury, you can appeal to your travel insurance (e.g. in case of repatriation).

There is absolutely no obligation to cycle with the guided group every day. If you wish to skip a day or cycle with another group, please inform the guide the day before (or the morning before the start).

This is certainly possible. You have free use of your bike and can go for a free ride if you wish. Please inform the guide of this in advance so that they are not waiting for you at the start.

You are free to use your bike. Even on the rest day. So you can go cycling to your heart’s content. However, there is no guidance or provisioning during the rest day.

The bike must be returned no later than 3pm on Friday/the last day of your cycling holiday. This allows us to clean it and get it ready in time for customers arriving on Saturday.

If your transfer from the hotel to the airport leaves before breakfast is open, you can request a breakfast package at the hotel reception. Please note this must be requested 48 hours in advance.

Checking in for the return flight can also be done 24 hours before departure but is not always possible at all airports or with all airlines. Strictly speaking, this is not necessary and you can simply check in at the check-in desk at the airport.

The shuttle will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the airport. The time of pick-up will be communicated to you by our on-site host. Be on time as the (shared) shuttle does not wait.

In Mojacar, all guided bike tours depart at the hotel.

In Calpe, all guided bike tours depart at the “Service Course by Baguet Bicycle Centre”, located +/- 500 m from the hotels.

The start time of each guided group is communicated at the briefing at the start of the cycling holiday and is confirmed daily by the guide after the ride for the ride of the following day. Usually this is at 9.30 am or 10.00 am.

As the roads in Spain can be dangerously slippery in rainy weather, it is possible that routes will be changed or moved to a later date.  If you wish, you can exercise indoors in the hotel gym.

If we cannot leave at the scheduled time, the next possible departure time will be set at 11 am. If we still cannot leave, a final attempt will be made at 1 pm. If the roads are still wet and/or the weather forecast indicates further rain, the ride will be cancelled completely. If possible, it will be ridden on the rest day.

In case bad weather is forecast for the days after the rest day, Baguet Bicycle Center may decide to ride one of these rides on the rest day.

The Baguet Bicycle Centre does not provide a following car. However, we offer the service that in case of serious technical and/or other problems, you can contact a specific number. We will make sure that in such situation you are helped as soon as possible and that you are picked up if necessary, no matter where you are on the course.

Yes, one or two supplies are provided during the guided cycling tours. An assistance car of Baguet Bicycle Center will take place at an agreed point on the route, where participants can make a short stop to refresh themselves. The assistance car will leave from the starting point, so people will have the opportunity to bring a small bag with their own stuff as well. It is also possible to refill free isotonic or water during the supply stop.

For the C-group there will always be one supply, for the A-group there will always be two; for the B-group the number of supplies depends on the distance of the ride.

In case a group consists of less than 6 participants, a supply stop can be replaced by a stop in a local bar or supermarket.

Absolutely, a bike helmet is mandatory in Spain. Participants without a helmet are not allowed to cycle in the guided groups. Each participant brings his/her own helmet. For their own safety, we recommend all cyclists on individual bike tours to wear a bike helmet during their personal bike tours as well.

We try, where possible, to organise the supplies near a café so that toilets are available. However, this is not always possible. But if the need is too great, we will be happy to stop at a café.

We do not provide gpx files to customers in advance. Due to circumstances (e.g. roadworks) the guides sometimes have to deviate from the pre-mapped routes, which leads to questions and sometimes dangerous situations among participants who have the gpx. Based on that experience, we stopped making gpx files available. Since the motto is “out together, home together”, gpx files are also not necessary. Each ride is also explained and discussed in the briefing. There is also a guidebook available in Calpe and Mojacar describing all routes and profiles.

Dit wordt ter plaatse beslist. Naargelang het aantal deelnemers worden bepaalde groepen al dan niet samengevoegd. In normale omstandigheden zijn groepen niet groter dan 25 fietsers.

During the guided weeks, we always use experienced cyclists who set the pace in the respective group. At the top of each slope/col we always wait until everyone is together. Each participant cycles at their own risk. Baguet Bicycle Center and/or its guides are not responsible for any accidents or physical injuries sustained by participants during or outside the cycling tours.

No, you are free to change groups. You simply inform the guide of the groups concerned at the start of the ride.

The moment someone in the group has a flat tyre, the whole group stops and the mechanic will help you change the inner tube. A saddle bag is attached to each bike containing a reserve tyre and a CO2 cartridge.

On arrival at the bike workshop, ask the mechanic for a new reserve tyre and a new CO2 cartridge so you can leave the next day with confidence.
